Gail Cooksey

Founder and Chairman Emeritus

Gail founded Cooksey Communications in 1994 to leverage her extensive corporate public relations experience and deep network of Dallas-Fort Worth civic, media, government and business contacts into high-impact results for the firm’s clients.

A former journalist who transitioned to corporate and agency public relations, she has tremendous insight into crafting messages that will resonate with the media and key target audiences. Gail and the Cooksey team have a keen understanding of a broad range of industries and issues through their collective backgrounds.

She previously served on the board of directors of the 35W Coalition, North Texas Commission, Dallas Friday Group and the Greater Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce. Gail’s also a past member of the Public Relations Society of America and a graduate of Leadership North Texas.

In 2010, the Fort Worth Business Press honored her as one of the year’s Great Women of Texas, and under her leadership, Cooksey Communications has been honored as a three-time Blue Ribbon Finalist for the U.S. Chamber Small Business of the Year.

Prior to establishing the firm in 1994, Gail served as a senior vice president in charge of marketing for various banks in Texas.

She earned her undergraduate degree in journalism, with honors, from the University of Texas at Austin.

What inspires you?
Working alongside some of the most trusted and valued businesses that are making a difference in our communities, our region and our economy.

What are your favorite hobbies?
Watercolor painting, traveling and eating.

What can’t you do without?
“Days of Our Lives” – I’m addicted, and have been watching it since the sixth grade.

Why did you start your own firm?
I had served in a number of corporate marketing and PR jobs where I hired agencies, and was never very satisfied with the results. I decided I wanted to form my own firm where we could do work the way the clients wanted.  I had never worked in an agency before forming my own, so I had no bad habits to overcome!
